Objectives
The objectives of this project are to attain competency in the following areas:
- Identify the basic parts of a computer system and the relationships among components.
- Describe characteristics and functions of CPUs, motherboards, random access memory (RAM), expansion connections, floppy drives, hard drives, and CD-ROM drives.
- Explain the functions and characteristics of system expansion devices (e.g., graphics cards, sound cards, and modems).
- Demonstrate the use of connectivity devices and peripheral equipment (e.g., portable storage devices, printers, cable modem, and wireless technologies).
- Perform basic operations in an operating system environment.
- Manage the various file types.
- Describe the basic computer start-up sequence.
- Compare and contrast the basic differences among operating systems.
- Investigate basic issues affecting system purchase and upgrade decisions.
- Investigate the building stages of a computer.
