Objective

• To develop the vocabulary needed to understand binary numbers and arithmetic.

Overview

An understanding of the binary number system and binary arithmetic is essential for further development of Information Technology concepts. In this activity we explore some of the essential vocabulary and concepts related to binary numbers.

Proceedure

1. Create a web page on maddog named binary.xhtml .
2. Create a definition list for each of the following terms:
   • binary number
   • digital
   • binary digital computer
   • bit
   • byte
   • octal
   • hexadecimal
   • metric prefixes (or SI prefixes)
   • binary prefixes
3. Link this new page from your digital portfolio.
