Introduction to Information Technology is a foundations course for everyone who is interested in computers
.
The course is designed to both orient students to the field of Information Technology, while at the same time
helping them build core competencies that will be needed for higher-level study in the field.
The course takes a practical, hands-on approach to learning about computers, beginning by addressing problems that all computer users face, such as: How do I keep my computer running; and, how can I setup and maintain a home network? Topics include computer hardware and hardware trouble shooting, computer networking, HTML and the web, database management and computer programming.
Students who complete the year-long course will be able to better use computers at home and at school; will have a better idea of what specific aspects of the computer field are most interesting to them; and, will have a better chance of success in intermediate and advanced IT courses.
This course will prepare students for the following courses, which should only be taken after completion of Intro to IT:
